In this lesson you will learn the usage of
whose, who and whom in common situations and
questions.
Speaking Practice
1- Whose bag is this? : This sentence is used to ask which
person something belongs to. Note that "whose" is a possessive
pronoun like "his" and "her".
2- Its mine: This sentence is used to refer to a certain
object and confirm that this object belongs to you.
3-It's yours: This sentence is used to refer to a certain
object and confirm that this object belongs to a person or a group of people
you are addressing.
4- It's hers: This sentence is used to refer to a certain
object and confirm that this object belongs to a female person.
5- They're ours: This sentence is used to refer to a certain
object and confirm that this object belongs to the person who is speaking and
one or two more people with that person.
6- It's theirs: This sentence is used to refer to a certain
object and confirm that this object belongs to them.
7- Whom are you going to visit? : This sentence is used to
ask about which person receives an action,
in this example you are asking about which person will receive your
visit. Note that "whom" is an object pronoun like "him",
"her", and "us".
8- Who made this cake? : This sentence is used to ask about
the person who does and action, in this example you are asking about which
person who did the action of making the cake. Note that "who" is a
subject pronoun like "he" and "she".
9- I know the man who won the prize: This sentence is used
to confirm your knowledge about something and note that "who" in this
example is used to describe the noun of the sentence which is "the
man".
10- I am looking for my handbag: This sentence is used when
you lose something and can't find it you use "looking for" to confirm
that you are searching for it.
11- Is this yours? : This sentence is used to ask a person
if a certain object belong to them or not.
12- What do you think of this book? : This sentence is used
to ask for someone's opinion.
13- This book is better than mine: This sentence is used to
give your opinion about an object and at the same time compare it with another
one that belongs to you.
14- I can't find my suitcase: This sentence is used also
when you lose something and can't find it.
15- This isn't mine: This sentence is used to confirm that a
certain object is not yours.
